A Well Travelled Print
The exhibition ‘Thinking Of Place III’ has now been travelling since 2022 and my print ‘The Dragon Explains Arthur’s Error to Idris’ is part of it.
So far it has been shown in New Zealand (twice), Australia, Spain, Canada, England, Argentina, Ireland, Serbia, USA (three times), Denmark and Turkey. I’m not sure how many miles that adds up to but I suspect enough to have circumnavigated the globe. Apparently a couple more places to go before the world tour ends this year. I’ll let you know when I get dates and locations.
You can see the whole print here.
If you’re wondering about the title…
Using an old tale about King Arthur which recounts him subduing a dragon and imprisoning it under a lake, I reimagined and reinterpreted it. Seeing the original as a metaphor for man’s subjugation of nature with the dragon being the villain of the tale I revised it to consider that the dragon was actually protecting nature from the ravages of humans.
The image is a multi-view of the village of Corris which sits close by Cadair Idris (the seat of Idris the giant) which also has a very beautiful lake at its foot. The valley is also known as a popular location for low level flying practice for RAF fighter jets.
